Okay here we go! It’s more than a year since I began working on the stage version of The 13-Storey Treehouse and this week we finally start performing it.
We can hardly wait.
Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton’s wacky and wonderful Treehouse books are taking the world by storm. The latest volume, The 39-Storey Treehouse, came out this month and went straight to the top of Australia’s best-seller list, not just for children’s books, but for any books. Eat your heart out, Dan Brown and that 50 Shades of Grey lady. It’s fantastic to see another Aussie kids’ lit success story.
This has been a challenging production to mount, requiring as it does the total mayhem of thirteen flying cats, a sea monster, an invasion of monkeys and a giant gorilla. And not forgetting Superfinger.
Rehearsals have been tremendous fun. Well done, director Julian Louis and the brilliant, hard-working, inventive, hilarious team.
The September/October season at the Sydney Opera House is almost sold out already (extraordinary!), but if you are in Sydney and able to get to Chatswood Concourse this week, there are seats available for our preview performances.
