DOKKUM, FRIESLAND – old-timers in the old town

Unfortunately I can’t promise you a show like this every time you visit Dokkum. That’s a pity, because although it caused a major traffic jam, the event certainly brought the place to life.

The annual Official Elfstedentocht (Eleven Towns Tour) Old Timers Rally was one of a number of tours around the eleven Friesland cities this weekend.  Apart from riding the 240km route in a vintage vehicle, people could walk it, row it, or roar around it on a Harley Davidson.
We were pleased that Dokkum was on the designated Pieperpad cycling route.

There were old timers playing old-time music too.

  1. Aren’t these old cars great. It is a bit like the Mille Miglia I saw scooting through the street of Florence.

  2. Over a lifetime I’ve saved myself a lot of money by having no interest in smart new cars, but I’m very pleased people keep these beautiful ones on the road.

    Dear Richard and mrs. T……
Please keep the company cards from the nice B&B during the trip. And I think of you both during this interesting potato tour in Holland. Keep on rolling.
